Super silent XPC Zen review
Silent PC Review (SPCR), a highly evolved publication dedicated to the “science of silent computing,” has reviewed the XPC Zen (ST62K). Delighted by the silence and performance of the XPC Zen, SPCR described this computer as “mini-itx for the power hungry.”
“Zen XPC ST62K is a landmark product that … the silent computing community have been awaiting for quite a while,” enthused Mike Chin, SPCR editor. “The Zen XPC ST62K is not only Shuttle’s smallest SFF barebones PC, it is also their quietest.”
XPC Zen eliminates the ergonomic limitations of traditional PC and still supports the full range of Pentium® 4 processors, including Intel’s new Prescott core CPU’s, a bellwether achievement. Also supporting dual-channel DDR400 memory, and HyperThreading technology, XPC Zen is less than one-third the size of large, bloated ATX form factor PC.
“The first thing you notice under the cover of the ST62K is the roominess and lack of cable clutter,” noted Ralf Hutter, SPCR reviewer and PC noise loather. The case is about 20-percent smaller than previous Shuttle XPC cases [and] features the familiar matte brushed aluminum shroud of the earlier XPCs.
With its completely redesigned internal layout, XPC Zen was created to remove unwanted noise, airflow intrusions and untidiness. Features introduced with the Zen XPC include Shuttle's advanced external power adapter, side mounted hard drive and cleverly integrated cable management.
“I've left the system set up ... for the past few days and am very satisfied with it’s overall noise level,” praised Chin. “I think almost anyone … would be happy with it, even if it was sitting on the desktop in fairly close proximity to their ears."
